NORAD Tracks Santa Clause Again

Santa Claus is comin’ — on radar

He made his list, he checked it twice, and now Santa’s flying around the world to deliver gifts to all the children who’ve been nice. Thanks to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), anyone can track him on noradsanta.org.

CONAD (NORAD’s predecessor) started tracking Santa in 1955, when a Colorado Springs newspaper misprinted the number for a Santa hotline. Air Force Col. Harry Shoup, the director of operations at CONAD, started getting a lot of calls for Santa. Shoup, not wanting to let the children down, instructed his staff to give updates on Santa’s location to callers. Instead of having the misprinted ad removed, NORAD offered to keep tracking Santa for the children.

Since then, the tradition has evolved. Two years ago Google started contributing to the project, using NORAD’s data to create 2D Google Map and 3D Google Earth representations of Santa’s whereabouts. The progress and video of Santa’s flight can be tracked at noradsanta.org, via cell phone at m.noradsanta.org, or in 3D on Google Earth. Erin Andrews update!

It still seems that there is no progress in the peeping tom case involving ESPN sideline reporter Erin Andrews.

It has been the big topic on all the major network morning shows and Andrews has said very little involving the incident.

According to her attorney, steps are being made to make sure that Andrews is protected from any kind of future intrusion.

Erin Andrews, the ESPN sideline reporter for the network’s college football and basketball telecasts, was the victim of a peeping tom who had posted a video of her naked in an undisclosed hotel room.

Some sources are now saying that there might not be any way that the person can prosecuted so there is a huge legal issue in the making. Another big item involving this case was websites who had posted the video were entrapping viewers with malicious spyware.

The aforementioned video has since been taken down from most popular websites including YouTube.

Knightley and Ferrell in London Boulevard

According to the Hollywood Reporter Keira Knightley and Colin Farrell have joined the cast of “London Boulevard”, the directorial debut of Oscar winning writer William Monahan (“The Departed”, “Body of Lies”).

Already cast in the film are David Thewlis, Anna Friel, Ben Chaplin and Ray Winstone.

“London Boulevard” is being adapted from Ken Bruen’s novel of the same name about a criminal in London who’s just been released from prison and becomes involved with a young actress.

Filming began in London this week for release sometime in 2010. Knightley can last been seen in “The Duchess”, has just finished filming “Last Night” and “Never Let Me Go” and is currently working on this film and “The Beautiful and the Damned”.

Ferrell will next be seen starring with Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Christopher Plummer and the late Heath Ledger in “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” due out on September 4.

Many retailers in the United States have already posted their 2010 Black Friday ads online.

Retailers such as Walmart and Target are offering some great deals this year. Along with Walmart’s separate Toy Book deals they will also be offering a savings of up to 30% on their latest toys, housewares, and electronics.

On Sunday November 21st Target will be offering a special Black Friday ’4-day sale that will run through Wednesday November 24th. Target also announced that it will be offering shoppers a 50% discounts on over 170 different products.

From November 21st through December 11th shoppers who spend $50 or more online at target.com will receive free shipping on over 800,000 items storewide.

Kansas Senior Gets Perfect ACT Scores

Charles Wolock, a senior from Kansas, recently recorded a perfect score on his ACT test. To add to his profile, Wolock also aced the SAT as well. After netting a 2400 on his SAT, Wolock scored a perfect 36 on the ACT.

The ACT and SAT are tests used to evaluate a student’s academic level when entering college. The ACT test was designed to gauge how ready someone is for college. The content on the test is similar to what a student can expect when taking freshman college classes. It tests English, math, reading, and science. The average score of the test in 2009 was a little over 21.

The ACT test is not required by many colleges and only a handful of states require the test.

Kansas is not one of those states. Perfect scores for either test are rare.

The feat achieved by Wolock is even more uncommon.

The ending of Daylight Savings Time comes on November 7, 2010 this year. We will be back to standard time after Daylight Savings Time passes.

On November 7, clocks should be adjusted and turned back exactly one hour.

This adjustment will mark the end of Daylight Savings Time for the year 2010. Many people believe that Daylight Savings Time is meaningless, but it is actually an attempt to save energy by taking advantage of as much natural sunlight as possible during the daytime hours.

Daylight Savings Time began during World War I as an attempt to save money and energy during the war period.

The Energy Policy Act has since set the exact dates and times that clocks should be set forward or back according to Daylight Savings Time.

Every October 16, National Boss Day is celebrated. It is not a laughing matter.

With the economy in a precarious condition it might pay to be a little more considerate of Bosses.

Giving a card and taking out your manager to lunch are some of the things to do to celebrate this day.

The holiday was started in 1958 by an employee of the State Farm Insurance company. She liked her boss and the woman, Paricia Haroski, wanted others to also appreciate their Bosses. Of course those were different times and this should be considered. But it cannot hurt to take your Boss out to lunch.

It is highly encouraged that all gay pride advocates wear gay and lesbian pride symbols on this day.

21 Year Old Man Dies On Board Norwegian Cruise Epic

A company statement for the Norwegian cruise ship called Epic, has confirmed that an unidentified 21-year-old man on board suffered a heart attack and died when the ship was about 40 miles from Miami. The heart attack was possibly caused by a fatal allergic reaction.

Shocked passengers on board the 1,080-foot-long Epic, Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship based at the port and big enough for 4,100 guests used online social websites and forums to spread the news of the tragedy, which occurred late Saturday night. One guest said that a CODE ALPHA was called to a cabin on deck 11. Then 3 guests were paged 15 minutes later to call 00 or go to customer service immediately, the guest recalled. The cruise director said that they were returning to Miami for a medical emergency about 15 minutes later.

The Epic docked at 12:45 a.m. and was met by Miami-Dade police investigators. The ship returned to sea at approximately 2:45 a.m. The rest of the ship’s travel plan won’t be affected by this delay, and Norwegian Epic will call in St. Maarten on Monday as planned.

New Legislation Will Require all Companies to Prove Chemical’s Safety

The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee held its first hearing to evaluate a 34-year-old law related to toxic substances. The Toxic Substances and Control Act is under review after many environmental and public health leaders have asked for better, more updated policies. New legislation has been proposed and is being called the Toxic Chemicals Safety Act. The new law would require a company to prove a chemical is safe to use in the environment in order to be kept on the market.

A spokesperson from a chemical manufacturer’s society states the new act could be dangerous to the industry as a whole. Beth Bosely testified against the act, stating it is too vigorous in its safety demands and should not be applied to industrial chemicals. Bosely goes on to state that the strict safety testing standards would be costly and would deter new chemicals from being created. She also states there would be too much paperwork involved if the act is passed.

Advocates for the new legislation feel it is time the government regulates the amount of chemicals being put into the environment. Many toxic chemicals are blamed for the increasing number of cases involving asthma, diabetes, heart disease and several other illnesses that result in premature death.
